Children’s Center is seeking a compassionate Development Director who thrives in a collaborative team
environment and can lead the fundraising efforts at Children’s Center.
Who We Are
Children’s Center is a private, non-profit child advocacy center accredited by the National Children’s Alliance.
Children are referred to us by law enforcement agencies, child protective workers, parents, teachers, health care
providers, and others concerned for their welfare. Our mission is to work with the community to end child abuse
and neglect through assessment, treatment, and prevention. Our vision is to build a world where all children feel
safe, valued, and heard.
The Role
The Development Director is responsible for leading and expanding Children’s Center’s diverse fundraising efforts,
organizational communication plan, relationship building with our community of supporters. The Director guides
the Development team to meet departmental and organizational goals and ensures that all department activities
are consistent with the organization’s mission, vision, and values. The issue of child abuse and neglect, and the
work at Children’s Center, is often emotionally challenging. The Development Director voices to the broader
community the message of hope and healing we provide through our services.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- In partnership with the Executive Director and Board of Directors, ensures a diversified fund development
strategy and plan while cultivating an organization-wide culture of philanthropy. - Researches, develops, implements, and expands traditional and creative fundraising strategies and
programs to raise community awareness and meet or exceed the organization’s fundraising and strategic
plan goals. Fundraising programs include annual giving, grants, events, major gifts, foundations &
corporations, and planned giving. - In partnership with the Executive Director, identifies, cultivates, and stewards major donors, building and
maintaining strong relationships with them. - Manages grant applications and reporting, ensuring compliance with all funder requirements.
- Represents Children’s Center across the community and acts as liaison to the media and other important
community groups such as partner agencies, businesses, and local chambers of commerce. - Oversees execution of all fundraising events to raise community awareness and meet or exceed event
budget goals. Coordinates events through logistical planning, research, volunteer engagement, and event
execution. - Establishes donor recognition plan in consultation with Development staff and Committee volunteers.
- Collaborates with the contracted services providers, including grant-writing, marketing and communications,
and event planning to ensure planned activities are aligned with Children’s Center goals and values.
Departmental Culture and Staff Management
- Hires, supervises, and evaluates all Development and Communications Department Employees.
- Proactively cultivates strategies, policies, and practices that mitigate vicarious trauma and its impact on staff,
volunteers, and community members. - Models’ good self-care and work/life balance for all, including creating opportunities for staff to engage in
their own self-care and work/life balance. - Continually find ways to integrate and expand Children’s Center’s diversity, equity, and inclusion lens into all
efforts and relationships. - Regularly models and promotes open and respectful communication and is willing to receive and consider any
feedback provided. - Works collaboratively in a team environment with a generous spirit of cooperation by seeking input and
including others in decision making and planning. - Develops and maintains positive working relationships at all levels of the organization and with external
partners and donors.
Fiscal Management and Governance
- Adheres to the organization’s financial policies and sound management of all financial assets including
revenues, investments, property, and equipment. - Ensures compliance with all funder and legal requirements.
- Collaborates with the Board of Directors, supports and engages Board members in ways that foster their active
and sustained engagement with Children’s Center’ Development and Community Engagement Department.
Strategy - Supports the vision and strategic planning of Children’s Center through the engagement of and collaboration
with internal and external stakeholders. - Monitors and ensures thoughtful implementation of strategic goals and provides regular updates to the Board
of Directors and leadership team on successes, challenges, and any necessary adjustments to the
Development and Communications Department.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and minimum of four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination
of education and experience. Program management, strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting
experience. Education: nonprofit administration, public administration, communications and business. - A successful track record of resource development including individual gifts. Ability to foster a culture of
philanthropy, engaging board and staff members as partners in fundraising. - Experience developing community partnerships, engaging a nonprofit Board of Directors, and advancing
thoughtful strategy. - Valid Driver’s license, acceptable driving record and automobile liability coverage or access to an insured
vehicle.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of and experience with agencies providing victim’s services
- Existing relationships with Clackamas County based organizations, donors, and other community contacts.
- Knowledge of trauma informed practices.
- Bilingual in Spanish.
This position requires local in-state travel to attend meetings and events. Travel primarily consists of local day
trips.
We are a pet friendly facility with a facility dog in the center on a daily basis.

Employee Assistance Program, and 401(k). Salary: $88,000-$93,000/Annually DOE.
