OCAS Medical Academy
One of the most crucial interventions for children who may have experienced abuse is a prompt, high-quality, and comprehensive medical assessment of injuries, performed by a doctor or nurse with a child abuse subspecialty. Specialized training and a high degree of quality control are essential for ensuring that children receive the best clinical care, and that protective parents receive the support they need when child abuse has been wrongly suspected.
The Medical Academy was created to ensure that all Oregon children, no matter where they live, have access to highly skilled medical providers in the subspecialty of child abuse diagnosis and management. OCAS leverages its local, regional, and national network of child abuse medical experts to offer a year-long, live series of monthly trainings; two conferences; and quarterly statewide peer review. Together, these strategies form our Medical Academy, which aims to provide responsive, sustainable, and ongoing opportunities for education and connection.
